Born in Monroe, Georgia, Leslie Wilkes received a BA from the University of Texas and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She has had solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Austin and Marfa, Texas. Her work was published in New American Paintings #55, New American Talent #15 and featured on the book jacket of James Elkins, The Object Stares Back. She attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture and was the recipient of the Milton and Sally Avery Fellowship Award at the MacDowell Colony. Her work has been reviewed in The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, The Denver Times, The Dallas Morning News, Southwest Spirit Magazine, Big Bend Sentinel and New Art Examiner. She was a Lecturer and Graduate Program Manager at California College of the Arts in San Francisco from 2001 - 2005 and currently resides in Marfa, Texas.
